Video Essays
As part of my Batchelors Degree in English and Film at the University of Reading I took part in a videographic module. As part of the course I was tasked with 4 assigned and breifed videos and a 5th independent video.
Video editing has always been an interest of mine and the oppertunity to explore this medium during my Undergraduate Degree was extremely enjoyable.
The initial 4 briefs felt restricting at first, however these restrictions pushed me to work creatively to build interesting and uniqe moments within these videos. The final, more independent video created a chance for me to explore the more creative ideas I had while also discussing one of my favorite films.
Pecha Kucha : Create a video of exactly 60 seconds consisting of precisely 10 clips from a single film, each lasting precisely 6 seconds, put together with straight cuts.
Videographic Epigraph: Select a sequence from the film you are working with and a quotation from a critical text of no longer than 10 sentences. The quotation should appear onscreen in a dynamic interaction with the sequence.
Voice-Over Exercise: Produce a short video on the film you are working on using voice over. The voiceover should tell a story, must also incorporate some sound from the film itself and should be one continuous sequence from the film
Alternative Trailer: Produce a 60-90 second trailer using only images and sound from your film. Do not create a narrative preview of the film. The trailer should use precisely 3 onscreen titles consisting of no more than 5 words each.
Audiovisual Essay: The essay should be between three and ten minutes long. It does not have to take a particular form. It should contain analysis / an argument.
